The Corey Jones Family
The Jones Family captured the attention of the news media, locally, in South Florida, as well as nationally, when 31-year-old Corey Jones, a musician/drummer was shot and killed in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, by a police officer on October 18th, 2015. It took four years, but in March of 2019, a jury found Nouman K. Raja, an off-duty police officer guilty of manslaughter and attempted murder, earning the former police officer a 25 years prison term.. The family was represented at times, and in part, by nationally renowned Civil Rights Attorney, Benjamin Crump. Attorney Crump represents the George Floyd family.
The George Floyd murder dredged up painful recollections of Corey’s death for Corey’s family. In the weeks that followed the George Floyd killing, the news media reached out to the Jones family for commentary about the continued injustice concerning the needless, senseless and indefensible killing of African American men.
